Fall Prevention Window Screens
Prowler Proof Guardian screens have been purpose designed, as a non-security barrier solution, to meet the National Construction Code requirements for fall prevention and complements ForceField seamlessly for a integrated solution. Not only has it been tested to exceed an outward force of 250NM (25kg), it also meets the BAL-LOW to BAL-40 requirements for bushfire prone areas and is a great option instead of insect screens for homes with pets that might need a more robust solution.
Bushfire prone zones require that openable windows must be screened with corrosion-resistant steel, bronze or aluminium mesh with an opening of less than 2 mm x 2 mm (AS 3959-2009).
Guardian screens are suitable for bushfire prone areas. With stainless steel mesh, Guardian screens are approved up to the extreme Bushfire Attack Level 40 (BAL 40). The Australian Standard for construction of homes in bushfire prone zones (AS 3959) simply states that openable windows must be screened with corrosion-resistant steel, bronze or aluminium mesh with an opening of less than 2 mm x 2 mm. You can rely on Prowler Proof Guardian designs – even in a bushfire.
Whenever two different metals interact there's a risk of corrosion. So the fact that Prowler Proof is welded instead of being held together by screws or rivets makes it more corrosion-resistant than other screens. Guardian is one of very few complete screens that has passed the 1,000 hour neutral salt spray test – most manufacturers only test the mesh. Prowler Proof is one of only 10 Qualicoat approved powder coating applicators in Australia, and the only screen manufacturer.
Neutral Salt Spray Test AS 2331.3.1
The test: Guardian has been tested to the Australian Standard 2331 which requires the product to survive a 1,000 hour neutral salt spray test. This test is an accelerated corrosion process that takes place in an enclosed chamber. The spray is saltier than sea water and the temperature is maintained at +35ºC with almost 100% humidity.
The result: Passed. Guardian is one of very few complete security screens that have passed the test – most manufacturers only test the mesh. Guardian's 304 stainless steel mesh has actually survived a 3,000 hour salt spray test.
Your benefit: Prowler Proof is the most corrosion-resistant screen on the market. Quite simply because it is welded instead of being held together by screws or rivets. Whenever two different metals interact there's a risk of corrosion.
Guardian is a security screen and insect screen in one. The openings in the mesh measure 1.3 mm – big enough for you to enjoy your view, small enough to keep just about all small creatures outside where they belong.
The National Construction Code (NCC) (BCA 2013) requires that window openings be either restricted or screened, in certain circumstances, to prevent children falling. Screens that resist an outward horizontal action of 250 N meet the code and mean that window restrictors, that prevent the window being open more than 125mm, can be removed. Screens that have been tested and passed AS5039/5040 are deemed to comply with NCC requirements. Barrier screens must either be type tested in a NATA certified testing facility, or tested onsite by the installer.
